Hi Rec, I think in this case we can understand it by exhauted meaning, "too tired" won't describe the meaning of "mệt lữ " OK?
But I can not explain the reason why he was so exhauted!

Hi HCMay, I admit that there are some difference between "mệt lữ" and "too tired" (It looks like the difference between "mệt quá" and "quá mệt"). However, my English is not enough for what I want to comment about Dieuvuong's "sự mệt lữ".

It doesn't make sense to me if someone said "I went to bed so I was tired." I understand what you mean Rec, but it would make much more sense like this if you want to put it as a joke:

"I went to bed; therefore , I was tired."

"I was tired so I went to bed" = "I went to bed because I was tired." In this case, it sounds right to use "so" but not in the reverse condition. Well, I guess it could but I'm not used to hear it like that.

For example, "I applied for the scholarship so that I could have enough money for school." When using "so" in this context, the sentence flows. The meaning is shifted a little bit, but it's also correct to say "I applied for the scholarship; therefore, I had enough money for school." However, switching "so" or "therefore" into "because" makes the sentence sounds very weird "I applied for the scholarship because I had enough money for school."

Anyways, I don't think that I give out the best examples. But it is really depending on the situation for you to choose the proper word that could fit into your sentence.

"I went to bed because I was tired." = "I was tired; therefore, I went to bed."

"I was tired because I went to bed." = I went to bed; therefore, I was tired." = "I went to bed so I got tired."

I don't think you used it correctly. "And" cannot be used after a semicolon in this case, just put a comma brother.

Have lunch OR Have a lunch?

Hi everybody,

I always use 'have lunch' but my colleague says that is not correct. He gives me an example "Did you have a lunch?" I don't agree with him however I still confuse a little between 'have lunch' and 'have a good lunch'.

I was looking for the answer by searching on the Google with key 'have a lunch' and 'have lunch'. The result that Google gave me is that both of them are using on many links

Pls, someone tell me the right answer.

"Have a lunch" means "có 1 bữa trưa"

We use to use "have lunch" when we want to express the meaning of "ăn trưa" in Vietnamese.
But how is your lunch? I have a good lunch.

The language used in everyday conservation practice, "have a lunch" is rarely used. People often use a word combination of "have a good lunch" as "ăn trưa ngon nhé"; "have a terrible lunch" in the sentence "I had a terrible lunch with my girlfriend because she was...". In some cases, people use the word combination "I have a lunch date" or "do you have a lunch menu?". In these cases, "lunch" is used as a adjective for the nouns "date" or "menu".
But "have a lunch" is used in the specialist language. For example, a police man is investigating a girl
