EWC 2008: Idea & Proposal

The following is my proposal (just scratch) for the English Writing Contest:

Purpose:

1) Create a healthy playground for Quang Binh young people.
2) Stimulate the desire to study English in general and English wrtiting in particular.
3) Attract more attention to QBO.

Participants: All QB youngsters (oldsters are also welcome).

Time: If it's possible, the contest should begin in the middle of this month and end before the end of this semester (probably this is not a good timing since all the high school students are pretty busy at this period of time). Otherwise, it begins and ends in the Summer.

Organizing works:

- External: Make announcements, posters to the public places likes schools (high school and the University). Even send people to those places to introduce about the contest (and QBO too).

-Internal:

1) Prepare the topic(s) for contest.
2) Form the contest committee.
3) Prepare prizes and ceritificates (this is important).

Conlusion: this event needs a lot of effort (labour). If successful, it may have a very good impact. I will wait for the answer from admin and mods. If the answer is yes, I contribute to some parts of the above, but mostly the responsiblity rests on the Admin and Mods' shoulders.

@all who read but not reply: If you are not interested, it's fine. However, if it's because you were disapointed due to the down of the server a while ago and lost your trust in the Forum (I saw some of you complain somewhere) this is my thought: your posts here are not the ultimate goal, what you have done offline really are. You should proud of them (SCMCT, QKH) which I am still jealous of. The posts in this forum are just the materials in a house, you can lose them and even the house but you still have the members of the family. Isn't that all you care about.

Hey Tocxu, you said that 'there are many good QB students but not that many get scholarship to study abroad. And the main reason is their not so good English. If you can motivate QBinhians to study English seriously, it will be a big contribution' and I also agreed with you. So, I think that purpose and participants of English Writing Contesst (EWC) should be directed towards that.

Hi Rec,

First of all, I would like to thank you for kicking me up here (I hope that you'll catch me when I fall back to the ground ).

About your suggestion to put the "study abroad purpose" in the proposal, I think that it's too much for us. Although it's our motivation, saying it out loud may not be a good way since to achieve that goal this single contest can not work. Therefore, we only state what we are sure that this contest can do.

Moreover, if directed to that purpose, the topics and participants for the contest should be narrowed down. My true ambition is to involve as many people as possible to this contest. Nowsaday, not only those who want to study abroad but also almost all who want to succeed in their careers need English.

However, as I notice, this EZ has almost stopped working for a while. Even some active members who used to post so many interesting things don't work on it anymore. Therefore, our ultimate goal now is to revive it and think of the EWC later (I will go home this June and hope to see you then to discuss).

I'm glad that you care about that plan. I didn't mean to cancel it, only put it aside to wait until it's possible. Maybe I'm wrong but my feeling is that not so many people now are eager to take part in this plan. I (probably Rec) cannot alone make it possible without support from others.

Since I'm new to this forum and away from QB, I cannot carry it out by myself. What I can do is to provide ideas and some distant supports if someones take over the responsibility to organize it. One thing you can believe for sure that I am always looking forward to seeing it happen (and take part in it as much as possible).
