EWC 2008: Suggest a topic for the contest

In order to prepare the quality and suitably topic of the contest, we need hardly suggest a topic for the contest. The topic can be a generalization of a subject, or a specific point of any subject. Please help us to give your suggestions.

Education

- College admissions.
- Pro- choice education (what university to take)
- Study abroad.

- Pride of QuangBinh.

Please note that contestants can choose one of the topics that are given by Broad of Organisers for their essays. So, You (QBO's member) should give as many topics/suggestions as possible.

The suggestions offered by Rec are very interesting: 1/ Quang Binh: This topic is a general concern of QB people; 2/ Education: I do not need to say about it anymore. I am sure that it is a interesting topic and will attract bookworms’ attention .

This contest, however, will be for 22 year-old Quang Binh people and younger ones (recommended). As can be seen, 22 year-old contestants are about to graduate from some university. Therefore, I would like to propose one more topic: Job. With the topic, the questions can be as follows:

1. After graduating from your college/university, what job do you want to find?
2. Where do you want to work (in Quang Binh or other provinces/cities or others)? Why?

4. You have one foreign friend and you want to invite him/her to visit Quang Binh. What will you introduce to him/her about QB?

5. Find and discuss 3 good things and 3 bad things about Quang Binh (people, scenes, culture, etc.)

So impressive! I could not imagine there were that many interesting topics. When I started to write the proposal for the contest I only had one topic in my mind: "write about your beloved".
Now I am truly persuaded that there should be several topics for the contest instead of one.

I agree with Rieng that the topic should be Quang Binh related. My favorite is topic 5 "Find and discuss 3 good things and 3 bad things about QB" because it will help to improve QB. The topic is simple enough to target a broader audience. The first one is interesting but required a marketing plan, which is a little more complicated for students of non-business major. Topic 2 also ties in with topic 1 on the marketing element. I think topic 3 will give judges more of a heartfelt, sentimental answers, rather than deep analytical skill. Topic 4 is fun, similar to the context of topic 3. So over all, I think topic 5 out-weighs the others because it leaves room for a broader perspective from both points of view, promote analytical skill, and it is QB related. Personally, I'm most interested to read about topic 5.

It really depends on what QBO is looking for. I think that all topics proposed will definitely help students improve their English writing skill in many ways. Not just English writing but the contest is also corespondent with the organization of paper, and the promotion of better flow of thought process (as rec has mentioned about the writing criteria to be judged on in a separate post), which I think will help students to improve their overall writing skill.

I agree that there should be some Quang Binh related topic(s) as Riêng and Thiên Bình said. However, since this contest is designed for a wide spectrum of ages, interests, and social knowledges, there should be also some non Quang Binh related topics, too (which are good for those who want to study abroad, for example).

We should all share our possible topics and the judges' committee will choose some of them for the contest (and probably save some for the next one ).

P/s: If I were a contestant, I would not choose topic 5 since it's hard to say bad things about my homeland . I would suggest "Write 100 good things about QB" . Just kidding.
