Topic: What do you think Quangbinh would look like five years from now?

It is not easy to imagine what Quangbinh would look like in five years to come. Would it advance by leaps and bounds like Japan or would it change out of recognition for the better like Da Nang city for the past five years? As a matter for speculation, Quangbinh will introduce a political socialization, a competitive economic system, an improved education system and a culture change in 2013.

One of the most spectacular things is that there will be political innovations in five years to come. It is the emergence of young leaders that can bring progress and prosperity to Quangbinh. The young 7X and 8X leaders are expected to guide our homeland to overcome poverty and unemployment by their professional skills and commitment. New leadership generations have the self-confidence to listen to and discuss people’s points of view as well as having the courage to act boldly with due regard for principles and convictions. As a consequence, people will become more involved in the activity of the government. We will be invited to participate actively in formulating and adopting government policies. It may come up to our expectations of realizing our own aims and objectives. Furthermore, there will be a good chance of university graduates returning to Quangbinh to make a living. This results from the government’s giving students career opportunities in our own hometown. No matter how hard it is, such special privileges can be used to exploit the potential human resources.
Moreover, the year 2013 will foresee constant innovations in three sectors of the Quangbinh economy. Firstly, agriculture will be noticeably improved. With the help of science, our farmers will double the yield in agriculture output. Farming will also be mechanized and will considerably lessen hardship and labour. As a result, more people will work in the commercial services as well as other fields like education, health care, leisure, tourism, etc. With the advent of a wide choice of shops, restaurants and offices, there will be more jobs for the local residents. Recently, a lot of business groups in Quangbinh have required capital for their businesses, which leads to the foundation of many commercial and investment banks. Commercial banks are businesses that trade in money. They receive and hold deposits, pay money according to customers’ instructions, lend money, offer investment advice, exchange foreign currencies, and so on. On the contrary, investment banks mainly act as intermediaries offering advisory services. Investment banks also raise funds for industry, issue and underwrite securities, deal with takeovers and mergers and issue government bonds. Accordingly, the banking market will be expected to benefit our economy. As regards health care service, local hospitals will be upgraded with new and improved medical equipment, so patients will be treated instantly without resorting to big hospitals in other cities in case of emergency. In addition, tourism business promises an increase in annual revenue. Until 2013, Quangbinh will be a tourist attraction famous for a pristine beauty, an open elegance and a relaxed lifestyle. Phong Nha cave, Nhat Le beach, etc...will be the promised destinations for both tourists and investors.

Educational reform will also be of great concern to the whole community. Firstly, students can benefit from the new education system, in which they are offered adequate educational facilities. Gone are the days when 40 or 50 students were packed in a damp and narrow room. Instead, they will have a chance to study in well-equipped classrooms and laboratories. Over the years, a lot of our books are outdated, for example, the 10th and 11th editions are almost identical to the 7th or 8th editions, which poses the challenging question that is how our students could keep up with the rapid development of the global pace. In the future, the government is supposed to give price support and improve the quality of textbooks. Secondly, teaching and learning methods will be changed. Students’ abilities will be assessed by their performance during the course, not just by test scores. They will be encouraged to think creatively, to work in groups and to express their opinions freely. Thirdly, universities and colleges will have the freedom to provide course curriculum tailored to the needs of the local business. No longer will the government interfere directly in the universities’ work. It’s up to the government to offer teachers higher salary because with their low income level, they always must try their best to make ends meet. In 2013, parental involvement will also be necessary to make sure their children understand the value of a good education. A lot of parents do not stress the importance of education and no wonder their children drop out or do not perform to the best of their abilities.

Last but not least, our culture will undergo a tide of radical change five years from now. As our quality of life is improving, traditional community activities such as regattas, folk festivals or harvest festivals will be held more regularly to meet our spiritual needs. These will be good opportunities for people to get together and bond. However, the popularity of mass media may have an overwhelming influence on our lifestyle, especially on the young’s. This may either provide adolescents with access to update information or make them become just pale imitations of some celebrities on TV, on the Internet and in the press. Inevitably, there will be a generation gap between the old and the young. Young people, myself included, are more open-minded to the changing values. We desire to search for our own identity and we request the pleasure of our peers’ company more than the influence of parents. Meanwhile, the old are less tolerant of other people’s choices and more concerned about what other people think of them. Besides, the extended family may almost disappear. In the rat race to earn their living, parents would rather have fewer children, which enables them to bring up their children better. In particular, children of ethnic minorities will have more chance to go to school and join social activities.

To sum up, there are hundreds of things that we cannot foresee at the moment. Nevertheless, I believe our homeland will gain comprehensive innovations in politics, economy education and culture. What matters is the way we take so as to have beneficial changes. From my point of view, I would follow the Swede’s lead: “ If we are bound to choose between the two roads, we will choose the third one”.

Topic: Introduce your hometown to a friend or a foreiner who is visting Quang Binh

My Composition

A few days ago, Daisy, my long-known penfriend, visited Vietnam. She is from a remote country, The United States of America. Taking such a long trip to Vietnam, Daisy wants to see how this country is developing during the peacetime apart from keeping the promise to visit me. Her journey began in Quang Binh, my homeland, and I introduced her a lot about Quang Binh: nature, people and its present development. I brought her to different places: from the coastal area to the mountainous one, from the city to the countryside. Wherever we passed, we had unforgettable experiences and significant images.

The first destination I introduced to Daisy was Quang Binh’s beaches. Quang Binh has a long coastal line and is famous for many beautiful seas such as Nhat Le, Da Nhay, Bao Ninh, ect. which are the ideal places for a summer holiday. Reaching a fishermen’s village on an early morning, Daisy and I were attracted to the splendid scenery of the seaside. We stretched ourselves on the silky sands, enjoyed the fresh air and watched the sunrise in the east. Some cool winds blew by, bringing along the particular salty smell of the sea. The waves together rushed to the shore, leaving the white foam on the sands. We both played with waves, ran on the beach and shouted joyfully in the open air. In the distance, slowly came into view some fishing boats. A crowd of women were waiting for them on the shore in the hope of a full cabin of fish. Then, Daisy had a chance of seeing fishermen carry their products to the land. They worked properly, hurriedly and noisily. The boos, shouts and the sound of quarreling together livened up the quiet space of the seaside in the early morning. Daisy paid much attention to the manual labourers, feeling a bit confused. I somewhat understood her confusion. She might have never seen these sights in her country, where most of the production is automated. Leaving her free of thoughts and observation, I added that sea is the main source to provide the fishermen with food. Owe to the sea, successive fishermen generations have been bred, remained and developed. I also showed her the residents’ daily activities, told her how they have coped with the hard living conditions of the region in the tropical climate. The natural picture was fantastic because of its original beauty but the human beings’ sight was sad because of the abject poverty.

Our next destination was a peaceful village in the countryside. I thought Vietnamese rural area would give Daisy some interesting discoveries. Actually, she was extremely fond of wandering along the narrow path across the paddy field under the summer gentle sunshine. Blasts of Lao wind blew into our faces, giving Daisy an unpleasant feeling. I explained to her that Lao wind is a particular type of wind appearing in the mid-central Vietnam in summer. Quang Binh is one of the places where Lao wind blows most terribly. It comes from Indian Ocean, travels through the Asian countries and surpasses the Anamite range to Vietnam. After a long trip, it gradually loses moisture and becomes dry and hot. Therefore, this wind type is a threat to the living creature here, even the human beings. In spite of such serious conditions, everything develops strongly. I showed Daisy the green trees and cheerful labourers on the fields. It was at the beginning of the rice crop, farmers were busy cultivating the land and scattering the first seeds for growth. Being so curious with the farming process, Daisy could not help coming closer to see the view more clearly. Men were directing the buffaloes, ploughing furrows ready for planting. Women were sowing rice on the next fields. They totally dedicated themselves to their work. Beads of sweat dropped down fertilizing the land. Their bodies were covered with mud but they always gave happy smiles on their faces. Apparently, hard life does not matter with these indomitable people. They are determined to overcome all difficulties simply because they cannot tolerate the notion of defeat. It is Quang Binh people’s enormous strength growing in harsh times, both during and after the war.

Leaving the countryside, we continued our journey in some famous places in Quang Binh. I led Daisy to Dong Hoi city, the chief town of Quang Binh, located on the poetic Nhat Le river. Dong Hoi is on its way to development with a lot of construction plans and transportation systems. It has a proud history of establishment dating from the end of 19th century. Dong Hoi used to be considered to be a “small Paris” or “the town of roses” by a lot of Vietnamese and French reporters. Demolished seriously with tons of bomb during the war, the city now is really reviving, and even more developed than before. We visited other historical places in Quang Binh including The Thầy Rampart, The Gianh River, Mother Suot’s monument, ect. which symbolise Quang Binh people’s fighting for the national defense during hundreds of years. Each of them contains an interesting story about the past or commemorates the great Quang Binh men. Daisy was really moved at the story about Mother Suot, the Vietnamese heroic woman experiencing the Vietnam patriotic war (1954-1975). Then, Quang Binh was one of the places suffering the most intense bombardment of the enemy. Mother Suot didn’t care for the danger of massive bombs raining down, sailing the boat carrying soldiers on duty across the river. Nowadays, Mother Suot’s monument is the Quang Binh people’s recognition of her devotion and reminds younger generations to be grateful to the older ones who saved and built their hometown. I also showed Daisy the cultural and historical traditions which have been formed, developed and preserved by many generations. Our excursion was lastly finished at Phong Nha Caves, the symbol of Quang Binh’s tourism. Daisy was really overwhelmed at the dreamy beauty of the “number-one wonder Phong Nha”. After a day of visiting this fairy land, we came home with the pleasure of an exciting trip.

The tour around Quang Binh with Daisy ended. It was time for her to say goodbye to me and continue her discovery of other regions in Vietnam. She might have her own impressions, both positive and negative sides, on this land and its dauntless people. Seeing her off at the station, I wanted to tell her that “what I have introduced you is about an undeveloped Quang Binh, but the backwardness is only temporary. Please look at Quang Binh people and their potential strength, you will be optimistic about a future modern and prosperous province. ”.

The composition above is only my imagination about a trip around Quang Binh with a foreign friend. It is my great love for this land that has encouraged me to introduce about it. Quang Binh people with precious characteristics like diligence, resolution and perseverance are strong enough to overcome any difficulty and poverty to lead their province to a bright future. As a Quang Binh citizen, I am aware of my province’s situation and try my best to have much contribution to its development. My present main duty is to complete my study at school adequately to get an opportunity of higher education abroad. After that, I will return the hometown and make my dream come true: open a private tourism company to promote the potentiality of tourism of this land. I hope there will be more and more visitors to Quang Binh in several years because it is a famous place-name on the map then.

Topic1: Find and discuss several good things & things to be improved on in Quang Binh.

My essay

Quang Binh is my homeland. I was born there and have witnessed all of its steps in the expanding process. Being a developing province with a great potential , Quang Binh, however, has many things that need improving to make it become a real attractive destination. In this essay, I would like to present my opinion about some good and defective things of Quang Binh by my daily experiences and the view of a student.

Firstly, nowadays, Quang Binh has a very different face to its one in comparison to 10 years ago. Although there have been already many modern high buildings likes hotels, supermarkets, banks, sport centers, etc in Quang Binh, more and more new ones are being constructed. Most of them are built to make human life more comfortable. Now Quang Binh people not only make the habit of going to market but also enter supermarket to get high quality goods. A big sport center with large swimming pools which was opened for public last years is also a interesting place to many people. Especially, on May 18, 2008, Dong Hoi airport with grandiose design started to work. It is a really great pride for Quang Binh people in general and myself in particular. These are some examples for the development of Quang Binh. They are not extremely great achievements but, to some extent, show considerable effort of Quang Binh people to improve their own hometown.
However, projects for entertainment are not paid enough attention. In the evening, you can easily see the scene of children playing in the streets and that is very dangerous. Children really need a safe and fascinating place to relax after school especially in the summer, so amusement parks for them are very necessary. As for adult, there have just been a cinema and a provincial theater which even don’t work regularly. It is a too little figure for the population of over 800.000. Entertainment centers, cinemas and theaters should be built more and used effectively . They are really essential for the spirit life.

Secondly, traffic system in Quang Binh is quite good with asphalted road and traffic signal systems . Almost all of the roads are upgraded, especially in Dong Hoi city. Quang Binh also has several big bridges such as Nhat Le, Gianh, Quan Hau...They are considerable advantages in traffic and transportation and bring about significant economic profits.
Nevertheless it does not mean that no problem is existing. In rainy season, sewage systems do not work well and stagnant water causes some difficulties in traveling. Besides, urban landscape should also be minded more. I think a beautiful street can not be without trees; they not only beautify the sight but also make the environment fresher. However, it is not difficult to find that there is not much verdure made in new roads. My school is quite far from my house and every time I bike on these roads I just wish of some shade because there are very few trees .You can see that Quang Binh is the place of so much sunshine and wind. Therefore , growing trees and verdure park is one of the most important things to make the city more beautiful and fascinating. Also, many waste baskets must be installed in every corner in order to clear streets and people should heighten their awareness about environment protection.

Thirdly, Quang Binh has many tourist attraction sites that could be turned into tourism development such as Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Bang Spa, Ho Chi Minh Trail battlefield, etc. I just want to talk about a special charm of Quang Binh , its beaches. If one day you intend to have a journey to beaches in my province, several beaches can be chosen to be your destination such as Da Nhay and Ly Hoa beaches, Nhat Le beach, etc. They are all well-known with white and fine sands, clean water and among the most attractive beaches in Vietnam. In summer holiday, they draw thousands of tourists’ visiting. Those beaches are noted for their natural characters but on the other hand, they are the disadvantages. A beautiful site can only become a famous tourist attractive one if we conserve its natural beauty and develop it suitably at the same time. By the meaning of that beaches in Quang Binh ought to be improved and embellished more professionally. Things that need to do right now are keeping surroundings clean, providing user-friendly public services and controlling private services which are expanding too free and unprofessionally. Sun Spa resort in My Canh, Bao Ninh commune with great investment is the most prominent tourist spot and the best model for sea travel in Quang Binh .

Above are some of my thoughts about my dear province in several respects. Maybe you find I focus on Dong Hoi, the center city of Quang Binh . That is because it’s the face of Quang Binh and the place where I am living now . Of course, an equal development is always expected. I hope that my province will soon improve all defectives things and become powerful in all fields and I can contribute my ability to that development.

INTRODUCE YOUR HOMETOWN TO YOUR FRIEND OR A FOREIGNER WHO IS VISITING QUANG BINH

Night comes down upon the earth. How lucky for a crab like me to live on Quang Binh Beach. Living the life of a crab, I am happy to enjoy the beauty of the sea, the beauty of marine and of the pure nature.

Seeing twinkling stars in the sky reflecting on the surface makes me excited. My head escapes from the surface of the sea to enjoy the spectacular sight. There are small beautiful gleaming lights far away on the horizon. They turned out to be the crew of fishing-boats. The more I look at them, the more I am captivated by the glistering beauty. But the sleepiness is dragging down my eyelids. I dive into the deep sea to find a shelter for the night. On my way back to the sea, I recognize that at night the marine creatures seem to be more splendid. The range of coral reef has a blaze of many colors. Schools of colorful fish are swimming freely past me. It seems that I am mesmerized by the whole view before my eyes. Now I understand why so many tourists want to scuba dive. And little by little, I fall asleep.

As a habit, I get up before dawn to watch the sun rise. I crawl on the sand and wait for the moment I am looking for. All of a sudden, I am startled by the crying sound of the sinewy fishers who are setting sail to go out to the sea. I feel like having a strong connection with Quang Binh people. My mind is inundated by incredible admiration for them. You see, they are diligent, hard working and free-spirited people. Other admirable characteristics of Quang Binh people are their resilience and perseverance. My Grandpa used to tell me stories about their valor and courage during wartime. Have you ever heard Mother Suot, who helped the soldiers pass Nhat Le River in spite of bomb mines? Her action was so audacious that she became a role model for Quang Binh women. In addiction to that, Quang Binh people are very friendly and hospitable. I remembered one day I was playing with my crabby friends on the beach, we saw the tourists who are being shown around by local people.

I am proud of Quang Binh. I am also proud to be a sea creature living at the place where I was born. These thoughts cannot stop me from shouting aloud, “Quang Binh Sea is the most wonderful place in Quang Binh!” All of a sudden, sister Swallow flies over me and says:

-No no little Crab, you are wrong. I know a place that is even better than Quang Binh Sea. It is Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.

-No, I cannot believe that there is any other place more beautiful than Quang Binh Sea,” I insist.

-How sad that you didn’t know! Ok, let me tell you about that place. Phong Nha Ke Bang is recognized by UNESCO as a world natural heritage. It is located to the north of the majestic Truong Son range in central Quang Binh Province and it is also one of the world’s two largest limestone regions. It is over 200,000 hectares of parkland including beautiful limestone formations, grottoes, caves, and a luxuriant forestland covering 95 percent of the park area. Phong Nha…

Not giving sister Swallow enough time to carry on her babbling, I interrupt:

-Wait! Although Quang Binh Sea has not been recognized by UNESCO, it has a great diverse body of creatures.

-Ha Ha. Why do you think that National does not have diversity? According to initial statistics, the primitive tropical forest in Phong Nha Ke Bang houses 140 families, 427 branches, and 751 species of high-rated plants, of which 36 species are endangered and listed in the Vietnam Red Book. The forest is also home to 32 classes, 98 families, 256 genera, and 382 species of four land backboned animals. 66 animal species are listed Vietnam Red Book and 23 other species in the World Red Book. In general, Phong Nha Ke Bang’s animals are more diverse than those of other natural reserves and national parks. It is also more diverse than Quang Binh Sea.

I cannot believe in her words. Until Today, I have always believed that Quang Binh Sea possesses the greatest diversity in Quang Binh Province. Her words seem to hurt my pride, I say:

- No, I do not believe it. You are lying!

- Little Crab, it is the truth. If you do not believe it, you can visit that place with me and we will see…

- Good idea! I will go with you. - I smile friendly.

- Ok, go with me. Please lie on my back and I’ll take you to that place. - Sister Swallow says.

From up high, it is even more spectacular. I can see an immense Quang Binh Sea. And gradually, the place emerges into my sight.

- It is Phong Nha Ke Bang National park, isn’t it? - I ask - How beautiful!

- Yes, from this height, it is more and more mighty. The beauty of nature is superb.

When I see some rare animals, I believe what sister Swallow has told me. Then she says:

- Now I will give you a tour to one of the most spectacular caves in the world - Phong Nha Cave.

As quick as lighting, she takes me to the cave. Inside the cave, I am overwhelmed with special feelings. It feels like I have just gotten into paradise. The cave features magnificent stalactites that looked like those I can only see in fairy tales. Stalactite and stalagmite columns and walls here create strange sounds like that gong and drum if they are knocked with the hand. Sister Swallow says:

- I think there is one interesting thing that you don’t know. Phong Nha holds several world cave records, as it has the longest underground rivers, the largest caverns and passageways, the widest and prettiest sand banks, and the most astonishing rock formations in the world. All of these marvelous traits attract the tourists both locally and internationally.

- You have a very broad knowledge. I wonder how you know all of this. – I ask with admiration.

- I only overheard this information from the tour guides at Phong Nha cave. – She simply answers.

Sister Swallow takes me back to the sea. The sun is descending, wrapping a brilliant orange shade that brightens up a semi-spherical corner where it floats behind the horizon. After one day, my knowledge has broadened so much. It has been an eye-opening experience for me to know that my Quang Binh Beach is not the only amiable-looking place in Quang Binh.

Quang Binh 5 years later
Tam - a reporter: Hello! Nice to meet you! May I ask you a question?
Nhu - a student: OK. No problem.
Tam: Great! So what do you think Quang Binh would look like 5 years from now?
Nhu: Yeah!!! This question seems slightly difficult to me. I am not sure.
Tam: You only need to state your subjective point of view.
Nhu: So in my opinion, Quang Binh can become richer and more modern.
Tam: Is it all?
Nhu: Yes, that is all I can think now.
Tam: Thank you very much for your answer. Good luck!

Above is a part of the interview with Tam - a reporter of Youth Newspapers about the topic: Future of QB in 5 years later. Now, I will elaborate on my answer because I have a much more complex attitude.

The future is unpredictable. Anything belonging to the future is still a secret. However, we can predict future base on the present. The present is fundamental for us to predict the future. What would Quang Binh look like 5 years from now? Indeed, I am not able to foretell. In a period of only 5 years, which is not too long, there may not be so many big changes. However, with the current situation of QB, it will inevitably progress, altering the appearance of QB completely within 5 years. Whether the changes are good or bad for QB is dependent on the development policy of the QB leaders. But with daily development in all fields (economy, education, culture and so on) of Quang Binh nowadays, I believe that Quang Binh will have many new steps in the near future to develop powerfully.

If the committee of the province have the right policy, in 5 years QB will have a better appearance. For examples: Tall buildings will replace old apartments. Clean streets with lots of trees will replace streets with much dust before and so on. The education quality will be improved. There are more students taking part in the Olympic competitions and many other national competitions. A lot of students participate in big universities of our nation. Especially, the tourism economy develops with more tourists coming to our province thanks to many beautiful sights such as Phong Nha cave – a world natural heritage and a variety of attractive beaches ( Nhat Le, Quang Phu, Bao Ninh, etc…). Quang Binh will become a developing province with higher quality of life in harmony with development of our Viet Nam nation as well as all over the world. The seafaring economy will become of the main fields to invest in worldwide. QB may become a center of the seafaring economy in Viet Nam in 5 years later. I believe that by that time, people here will be more knowledgeable and have the industrial lifestyle.

In addition, the infrastructure will be better with new streets, buildings, society prosperity structures such as schools and hospitals. Electricity will be spread to all regions of QB, including remote area and sea area. Furthermore, Internet will be more popular. Everyone can use the Internet at home and it will become a ”mental food” in the life of all people in QB.

Besides, if the QB committee don’t have any suitable policy for the present situation of QB province, QB will become worse. Specifically, development doesn’t combine with the protection of the environment, which causes pollution to the air, soil and water. So many factories which are built up may possess the agricultural land area. Therefore, agriculture of our province will be damaged. The life of farmers will be harder when losing their agricultural land area. If the QB committee only focuses on developing “the face” of the province, don’t improve its real quality, then QB won’t develop thoroughly but it will develop materialistically.

Therefore, I always hope that the QB committee and residents will co-operate to make our QB province more beautiful and richer. It is all for the future generation. May QB become a main economic region in 5 years later? This depends on all of QB residents, especially we- students- young generation of QB, we have to try to learn well to contribute to development of QB- where we were born.

Topic #2: Introduce your hometown to a friend who is visiting QB.

I am very glad to hear that you are going to Quang Binh with your family on next month. If you don’t mind, I will be a tour guide for you and help you during your holiday. You know, Quang Binh is a poor land but nature has been awarded with some beautiful sites such as Phong Nha cave, Da nhay beach, hot spring, etc… I will introduce Quang Binh to you.

The first place you should visit when you come to Quang Binh is Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. It is located 50 km northwest of Dong Hoi city. It contains hundreds of square kilometers of rainforest and over 300 caves. Tourists go there to study butterflies, visit caves, etc… Besides, it has some animals in the “Red Book” that need protecting. Especially, all the primitive stone caves were preserved in their original form. Thus, when entering these caves, you almost feed like you are going on a trip to the centre of the earth. Among 300 caves, Phong Nha cave is the most famous because it is one of the most beautiful caves in the world. Although it was discovered earlier, it was not until 2003 that Phong Nha cave was certified as a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO. You can stand in cave for hours to see magnificent stalactites and enjoy the clean air with your family and friends.

Next, Quang Binh does not only have the “gold forest” but also have the “silver sea”. Came to Quang Binh, you must go to the beaches. It has some famous beaches such as mysterial Nhat Le beach, Duc Trach…, especially Da Nhay Beach. It is beautifully neglecting and fascinating. Standing on the expanse of white sand to see stones go up and down on the water or to hear sounds of wave touching the rocks is very exciting. It is wonderful if you swim under the cool sea water and enjoy some seafood on hot summer day. At night, you can light a camp fire and then, dancing and singing around it.

In addition, Quang Binh is the land of rich cultural and famous people. It is the fatherland of Vo Nguyen Giap, who is the leader of the Vietnamese people’s army in Dien Bien Phu and the Ho Chi Minh campaign. You can visit his old house in Le Thuy and learn about his background and glorious feat of arms. Besides, it is a place where witnessed Me Suot drive ferry-boat to transfer soldier cross the river. Nowadays, on the Nhat Le River bank has a statue of Me Suot to commemorate service of her. If you visit Quang Binh on Independence Day, you will see the regatta in Gianh River, where is a fine line between south and north from in the early 17th to in the late 18th, or you can take part in the traditional games in Ngu Thuy, Tuyen Hoa…

I am sure that you will be pleased with them. To enable the province to develop, Quang Binh province people's committee decided to build an airport, so you can come to here easily. I hope that Quang Binh will be a wonderful destination for your vacation.

Chủ đề mà bọn em chọn: "What do you think Quảng Bình would look like 5 years from now?."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

“The place where we begin will be the place to come back”. It was 5 years passed from the last time I stood here.

---
I walked down to the railway station with an exciting feeling.

"I'm coming back home!" I yelled in mind.

For me, who first returned after five years of studying abroad, this is really the blessed time.

I opened up my eyes and turned my head around, drew breath to fill my lung with the homeland air. It wasn't difficult to realize many changes in my homeland. Now, this station was very different from what it used to be 5 years ago, when I had left here. Then, I still remember, there had been some hundred square meters with one floor, two waiting-rooms and four railways. But then, in front of me, there was a large and crowded land. Because my train arrived in the same time with two or five others and that day was quite near the lunar new year holiday, there were so many people that I couldn't number how many railway had been built. I pushed on my suitcases over the crowds, came into the restaurant of the station to get a sit and have some food after a long travel. Orbiter, I found some more new change..

When looking around and the stylish neon hanging on the ceiling, It was impressing to find out that the station was built classically. The soft yellow light and the song named "Home" which was performed by Westlife, made me fevered a lot. I thought how my parents would be surprised when I came home without a message. That thought thrills me so much...

-----

I ran quickly to a taxi.

"Le Quy Don Street, please!" I said.

While the taxi came out the station, I opened the window and beheld my city.

"Too diffrent!" I thought.

The roads were crowded by many cars and motorbikes. Because everybody was in a hurry to prepare the party in the end of the lunar year and the weather was quite cool, I could feel the spring in the air.

"This is Tran Hung Dao Street, isn't it?" I asked the driver. Then, I thought about recalling the names of the streets.

"That's right, it is" he said "You moved away, did you?"

"Yup, I went to study. This is the first time I return home after five years. Could you name all the street we come over, please? I want to remember them."

He seemed to understand my mind. Every time we passed over a street, he had waited until I had a name in my head. Then he said the correct answers. Some streets which I based on my locality to guess were right. Others that I built on the view to guess were wrong. Most of the buildings were rebuilt. Especially, many tenements built last year (my friends had announced) were beautiful and modern.

We passed over Vietnam-Cuba-Dong Hoi hospital, the only one national hospital in Quang Binh. Looking back upon the past, many people had used to go to Hue to solve their serious trouble. The bad facility had disappointed them. But after 5 years, the hospital had been repainted and had more tools for the doctors. It was cleaner. More and more sick people believed in that hospital.

The taxi turned to the left and went on the street which had many big green trees. I was very impressed, because people had to spend a lot of money and ado to grow there trees into the city.

"Where is this?" I said, "I don't know this street. Is it new?"

"You used to learn in high school for the gifted, didn't you?" he asked "This is the road where the school is on."

I didn't believe it. Because when I had learnt there, I had been going to school on the road with no tree and a lot of strong wind. Everything around the road had been only fields and piscinas. When I saw my school, I was very surprised. There were some new buildings which had 3 floors, and a swimming pool for students.

"Wonderful! I can't imagine how the school has been changing." I said.

"This school is becoming one of the best school in middle of Vietnam. Many students from Ha Tinh, Quang Tri come here to study, so the school can be built bigger."

"Where is the wood bridge?"

"Good memory. Five years ago, there are many piscinas. But now, they have built many company and office here. We don't need the bridge any more, so they demolished it."

"I have heard that Dong Hoi has just had buses. This city is quite small. What do they need buses for?"

"You don't know, do you? The buses can make people go around Quang Binh province, not only in Dong Hoi city." he said "And now, people can go to visit Phong Nha - Ke Bang, Bang hot stream, Da Nhay beach etc... by bus"

"Really? That's so great!" I said "Touring by bus is cheap and interesting. Quang Binh has many beautiful places to visit. Buses will be very useful for tourists."

"Yes, and taxi drivers will have more free time" he smiled sadly.
Then, I didn't know what to say to make him feel better so I kept silent. I thought about the fantastic change of Quang Binh. When I was on grade 10, Quang Binh had been a poor land with much sunshine and wind.. Most of the population had been farmer. Children had studied in poor facilities. They had had to work hard with their family. Dong Hoi had been a small city. People had traveled by motorbikes on many bad road.

"Why don't you remember the road you used to go to school for 5 years?" he asked suddenly.

"I can't. Because when I stayed here, I had never went on this road to get to the station."

"I see." he said, "Do you know? There are too many transport. Some streets were blocked. So people made them become oneway streets. We have to go on the detour."

"Is the traffic so awful? However, I can see the powerful changing in Quang Binh. I think that the young have done many things to improve this poor land."

"That's right. Quang Binh young people are excellent and they work very hard." he said "Without them, this province couldn't be so good."

"Because they love their homeland" I said.

"yes." he agreed with me, "Ahhh. Do you see that building?"

"Yes, I do. What is it?"

"It's the trade center of the city with eight floors. Three ones under are supermarket. Five others are local of many companies."
It was crowded with people. They seemed very busy with a lot of things to prepare for the new year. I still remembered, 5 years before, people had gone to the market to trade. But then, they go shopping in the supermarket. It meant lives were better

---

The taxi turned slowly into Le Quy Don street, my heart beat faster and faster. There were many changes of cause, but all the memories came suddenly to me, family, friends, the place we had played, the tree we had climbed … everything! The taxi stopped, I paid rapidly the bill, thanked the kind driver. And I ran fast, as I had never run before, to my home.

The second day, My family went to visit our relatives. We arrived the car on Ly Thuong Kiet street. The road was widened, raised and resurface. Beside, trees were planted along the road. I saw many foreigners walking on the street side and many new big hotels had been built to sever visitors. I thought ”Touring developed very much, It is really good for my hometown”. Suddenly, my mother said to me ”Look! That empty land will be an entertainment centre in the near future”.

I yelled small:”Oh! Really? I still remember it used to be paddies-filed 5 years ago”.

The city changed with a dizzy speed

I was in chase of my thought, my city develops more and more. I felt proud of my city with all result that it reached.

People said that “Everyone has many places to go, but has only one place to come back”. This place is my motherland, the place where I was born, where I spent my childhood, and most of all where I am always felt love. Sometimes I wondered if one day I come back to my hometown, what my feeling will be. But then I knew, almost at that time, I would never forget this place, of course, never ......

Now, I am 16 years old. 16 years are the time I have lived in this full sunny and Quang Binh land. Though that time is also quite short for a human life, the images of my native country are always engraved upon my mind. I think that Quang Binh is the place which I usually feel proud of.

Quang Binh is a piece of land with thousands of historical years. It is a very poor province and the life of people is very hard. Therefore, perhaps Quang Binh is not known very much. But it is lucky for Quang Binh to become a famous place, because the creator has awarded Quang Binh a grant of many beautiful landscapes. On the West of Quang Binh, following the red soil of the Son Trach road, you will see Phong Nha cave which stands bulkily in the way between the waste mountainous areas. When coming inside the cave, you will have the sensation as losing in the paradise, the blocks of stalactites which have a fairy shape, a child shape or a grey head of a lady shape mingle splendid lights of the lamp and create a miraculous and occult space Phong Nha-Ke Bang is more special than any other cave. It has a primitive forest zone with the biggest variety of fauna and flora. However, it was not until 2003 that Phong Nha- Ke Bang was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Not only does Quang Binh have the attractive caves and the primitive forests, but it also has the wonderful beaches. If Khanh Hoa has Nha Trang beach or Nghe An has Cua Lo beach, Quang Binh has Da Nhay beach. This is the beach which has the transparent current of water, the white sand bank and the immeasurably high willow trees. Da Nhay beach attracts visitors by the stately block of stones in the vast ocean that looks like a gigantic whale is dominating on the sea surface. In addition, there is a strange thing here. Have you ever heard about a hot spring yet? Quang Binh has a spring which is called the Bang hot spring. When going there, you will see the steam to pervade all over the spring. Let is try boiling the eggs into this spring! Only after some minutes will you enjoy the egg dish pleasantly. And when talking about Quang Binh everyone often thinks of the people here. Although the life of my homeland is very difficult, they are never spelling with fate. They are usually optimistic. They are very kind and close to everyone. They always help each other when others have troubles. If I were you, I am sure that I will be happy with the friendly, open- hearted and enthusiastic people here.

Having an occasion to visit Vietnam, you should not miss to see Quang Binh. Let is come to Phong Nha- Ke Bang, Da Nhay beach and visit the friendly people.

I hope Quang Binh will bring you joys and good memories.

Welcome to Quang Binh!

#119 - Truong Thi Thuy Hang

I was born in Da Nang city but Quang Binh is the place I have lived and grown up. Quang Binh - my hometown is a poor province that is in the North central coast of Viet Nam. When Vietnam was in war, Quang Binh was one of the places where the fighting was very fierce. In spite of difficult conditions, people in Quang Binh still fought bravely. The historical vestiges such as Bau Tro, Quang Binh Quan and Luy Thay are the clear proofs for the magnanimous past. Speaking of Quang Binh, people think of two heroes: Mother Suot and General Vo Nguyen Giap. In the anti-American resistance war, no matter how old she was, Mother Suot still tried to take the soldiers cross the river. General Vo Nguyen Giap has been famous with Dien Bien Phu victory in the anti-French resistance war. He has been known as one of the most famous generals of the twentieth century. Moreover, Quang Binh is also home to several other famous Vietnamese persons: the family of former South Vietnamese president Ngo Dinh Diem, poet Han Mac Tu, and writer Bao Ninh. After the war, people had to work hard to recover the economy. In addition, the weather was not very favourable and the area of land was small. All those things have helped create characters to be industrious and creative. In recent years, Quang Binh has been developing strongly. There have been many changes. The roads are extended. There are more and more constructions which are built. Dong Hoi City is the cultural, economic, political center of Quang Binh. Quang Binh has several tourist attraction sites that could be turned into tourism development. The famous one is Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. It is located in the Bo Trach and Minh Hoa districts, about 50 km northwest of Dong Hoi. It is situated in a limestone zone of 200,000 hectare in Vietnamese territory and borders another limestone of 200,000 hectare of Hin Namno in Laotian territory. The core zone of this national park covers 85,754 hectares and a buffer zone of 195,400 ha. The park was created to protect one of the world's two largest karst regions with 300 caves and grottoes and also protects the ecosystem of limestone forest of the Annamite Range region in north central coast of Vietnam. Phong Nha-Ke Bang area is noted for its cave and grotto systems as it is composed of 300 caves and grottoes with a total length of about 70 km, of which only 20 have been surveyed by Vietnamese and British scientists, 17 of these are located in the Phong Nha area and 3 in the Ke Bang area. Phong Nha holds several world cave records, as it has the longest underground river, as well as the largest caverns and passageways. In 2003, it was in the list of UNESCO's world heritages. After that, the number of visitors to this province changed significantly. Besides, Quang Binh has many beautiful beaches: Da Nhay and Ly Hoa Beaches and Nhat Le Beach. These two beaches feature white and fine sands, clean water, and are among one of the most attractive beaches in Vietnam. Bang Spa is a hot spring area in Le Thuy district with resort and health care services. The temperature of the water at the jet hole can reach up to 105 degree Celsius. Finally, it is the Ho Chi Minh Trail battlefield, where there are many important sites along the trail during Vietnam War. Quang Binh is still a small and poor province. Therefore, people in Quang Binh have tried to contribute to the development of the province.
